Reading Vedic Literature in Sanskrit
Description
Reading the Vedic Literature in sequence is the procedure to spontaneously train the brain physiology and the whole physiology of speech to function in the most orderly way so that every thought, speech and action is spontaneously promoted in the evolutionary direction of Natural Law, and thereby spontaneously enjoys full support of the evolutionary quality of intelligence that upholds order and evolution in the entire universe. --Maharishi in 'Vedic Knowledge for Everyone: Maharishi Vedic University Introduction'   'The Vedic Science of Maharishi Mahesh Yogi offers a program of listening to and reading the Veda and Vedic Literature in the context of the practice of the Transcendental Meditation technique. Maharishi offers a unique and comprehensive understanding of the origin, nature, and significance of the Vedic Literature, which are not located in books, but in an unbounded field of intelligence, pure consciousness, which underlies the physical universe.   'In the last few years, Maharishi has encouraged students to learn to read Sanskrit texts phonetically as a means for accelerating the growth to higher states of consciousness. This paper will describe the theoretical underpinnings of this program as well as some of the preliminary results, including the personal experiences of several students. It will also discuss the research of Dr. Tony Nader that correlates specific branches of Sanskrit literature with structures and functions of the human physiology. Dr. Naderís research suggests that reading the sounds of the Vedic Literature in their proper sequence brings balance to corresponding anatomic structures, providing an important technology for restoring perfect health, along with growth towards higher states of consciousness.' --William F. Sands, "Reading Sanskrit For Accelerating the Growth of Human Potential In the Vedic Science of Maharishi Mahesh Yogi." Presented at the 10th International Sanskrit Conference Bangalore, India, January 1997
